Key Skills

This course builds essential skills in safe client moving and handling, combining risk assessment, infection control, and clear communication with hands-on practice. Participants learn to conduct dynamic risk assessments, apply correct posture and ergonomic principles, and maintain infection control throughout their tasks. Equipment skills include the safe use of full-body hoists, stand aids, rota-stands, and wheelchairs, with an emphasis on pre-use checks, compliance, and safety practices. Practical skills cover bed-to-chair, chair-to-chair, and wheelchair transfers, sit-to-stand techniques, slide sheet use, and team handling. Learners also gain confidence in engaging clients respectfully, ensuring dignity, safety, and independence.

Learning Outcomes

By the end of this full-day training, participants will be able to confidently and safely carry out client moving and handling tasks in line with best practice and legal requirements. They will demonstrate the ability to complete dynamic risk assessments, apply correct body mechanics, and implement infection control measures during handling activities. Learners will competently use key equipment, including full-body hoists, stand aids, and wheelchairs, ensuring safe pre-use checks and compliance with regulations. They will also be able to perform a range of transfers and mobility techniques, work effectively as part of a team, and communicate clearly with clients to maintain dignity, comfort, and independence.
