The key skills covered include providing high-quality personal care while maintaining professional standards and legal compliance, using effective verbal and written communication to support client dignity and engagement, and safeguarding adults through risk recognition and infection prevention measures. They also involve applying safe practices in medication management, first aid, food hygiene, and allergy awareness; managing behaviour confidently in challenging environments; promoting equality and diversity in care delivery; and demonstrating professionalism, empathy, and responsibility in all aspects of practice.
At the successful completion of the course, participants will confidently apply Scottish Health and Social Care Standards, safeguard vulnerable adults, and communicate clearly and empathetically with clients, families, and colleagues. They will demonstrate understanding of dementia and deliver person-centred support, follow safe procedures for medication management, and apply effective infection prevention and control strategies. Participants will also respond appropriately to emergencies using first aid and basic life support, promote equality, diversity, and inclusion, maintain health, safety, and fire awareness, and manage behaviour challenges professionally.
