Meeting preparation and planning – creating effective objectives, scheduling, and documenting meetings. Interpersonal and communication skills – communicating clearly and assertively, using nonverbal communication, and enhancing relationships with participants. Managing meeting flow – motivating productive discussion, keeping conversations focused, and controlling the pace of the meeting. Decision-making and consensus building – generating options, identifying the best solution, implementing decisions, and recognising "groupthink." Handling challenging dynamics – disarming disruptive participants, dealing with difficult behaviours, and asking effective questions.
Participants will know how to prepare a meeting so that everyone is clear about their role and what is to be achieved. Ability to introduce and manage each agenda item effectively throughout the meeting. Skill to structure discussions that build group consensus and secure a clear decision on every agenda item. Capacity to identify what can go wrong in a meeting and take immediate action to keep participants focused on the task. Confidence to encourage appropriate participation from all attendees while eliminating time-wasting behaviours.
