This foundational program introduces the principles, processes, and tools of risk management in the context of environmental management and sustainability. It aligns with the Public Sector Risk Management Framework (National Treasury, South Africa) and integrates environmental legislative frameworks such as the National Environmental Management Act (NEMA), Occupational Health and Safety Act (OHSA), and relevant municipal and provincial environmental policies. Participants will learn how to identify, evaluate, and mitigate environmental risks; ensure compliance; and embed proactive risk culture in service delivery operations.
Solve problems by taking remedial action through continuous risk assessments. Work effectively with others by ensuring personal and team safety in the workplace. Organise and manage oneself responsibly by aligning activities with team objectives. Collect, organise, and critically evaluate information to make informed decisions during assessments. Communicate effectively through oral, written, and visual means to report remedial actions. Understand the world as a system by recognising how one’s actions affect overall organisational and environmental outcomes.
