Building an approachable and supportive online presence to foster student engagement and trust. Digital Navigation and Resource Management: Navigating the NEC learning management system (learn@nec) to access essential course materials and resources. Understanding the structure and content of course materials to guide and support students effectively. Student Communication and Engagement: Finding and reaching out to assigned students to establish initial contact and maintain open communication throughout their studies. Developing supportive, encouraging, and responsive communication skills to facilitate a positive student experience in a distance learning environment. Assignment Marking and Feedback: Accessing, reviewing, and providing constructive feedback on student assignments within the learn@nec system. Applying NEC’s marking standards and feedback practices to ensure consistency, fairness, and constructive guidance. Inclusive Teaching for Special Populations: Understanding and applying strategies for teaching and supporting students with unique circumstances, such as prison learners. Developing flexibility and sensitivity in approach to accommodate the needs of diverse student groups. Professional Development and Continuous Learning: Identifying opportunities for further professional growth within NEC. Knowing where to find additional resources and support for ongoing development in the tutoring role

Competency in Platform Navigation: Tutors will confidently navigate the NEC learning management system (learn@nec) to locate course materials, access resources, and manage essential teaching functions. Effective Student Communication: Tutors will know how to find, contact, and maintain supportive communication with their students, ensuring a consistent and responsive tutoring relationship. Proficiency in Assignment Marking and Feedback: Tutors will be able to access student assignments, apply NEC’s marking standards, and provide constructive, meaningful feedback to support student progress. Preparedness to Support Diverse Student Needs: Tutors will understand how to adapt their approach for special student populations, particularly prison learners, ensuring inclusivity and accessibility in their teaching. Awareness of Professional Development Resources: Tutors will recognize the available resources for ongoing professional development within NEC and know where to seek support when needed.
