Understanding of the physiological and neurological changes during peri-menopause and menopause, including the role of estrogen and its effects on neurotransmission, brain structure, and cognitive function. Awareness of common neurocognitive and psychological symptoms such as brain fog, memory lapses, mood shifts, and sleep disturbances, and how they relate to hormonal shifts. Development of strategies to support cognitive health, including evidence-based lifestyle interventions like diet, physical activity, stress reduction, and sleep optimisation. Awareness of tools to support brain health, including conventional therapies (e.g., hormone replacement therapy), complementary approaches (e.g., supplements), and wellness practices.

Learning Outcomes

Improved understanding of the common symptoms of peri-menopause and menopause. Improved understanding of the biology underpinning the common symptoms, including the changes in levels of estrogen, progesterone, and cortisol and how these impact changes in the brain and brain health. Increased knowledge of the pivotal role that changes during midlife can play to reduce later dementia risk, especially in women who make up two thirds of all Alzheimer's Disease cases globally. Increased knowledge of practical lifestyle approaches (e.g. nutrition, physical activity, and social connectedness) to enhance functioning during peri-menopause and menopause and to reduce later life dementia risk.
